In alto Mare

album pre-order

OUT JULY 22

It is a new Giovanni Costello, an artist who became known from the first European edition of 2011 of the TV program “The Voice”, the one we find in his new album, IN ALTO MARE, recorded in the Milan Studios by the famous Producer Nicolò Fragile, he who has produced the greatest Italian artists such as Eros Ramazzotti, Mario Biondi, Renato Zero, Mina, Celentano among others. It can be said that Giovanni is a rediscovered artist, a modern sound contained in the album with new arrangements, unpublished songs and famous covers well known throughout Europe such as “In Alto mare” by Loredana Bertè, which also gives its name to this work.

Despite this modern direction given by the new arrangements masterfully created by Nicolo Fragile, Giovanni does not forget his roots as a romantic Crooner, sometimes melancholy in telling love stories as in the unpublished song “Vivere” written by the famous author of Eros Ramazzotti, Antonio Galbiati. All his piano vein is rediscovered in the piece “La donna cannone” by Francesco De Gregori, a piece that brings Giovanni back to the still indelible memory of the evenings spent at the piano in the famous Piano Bars all over the world. All this with the participation of the Budapest Art Orchestra aus Budapest, Hungary, which confirms the romantic spirit in some of Costello’s pieces. The song “Era bella” in duet with an extraordinary Fausto Leali, a song written by Gilbert O Sullivan in the distant 1970 translated into Italian by Daniele Pace, reminds us of one of the most beautiful moments of that musical period. “Non avere paura” unpublished written by Mauro Culotta, known author for the famous Mina, reminds us that there are no insuperable problems, and that the future is in our hands. An almost bluesy moment could not be missing “Poeta per amore” written by the authors of Zucchero, it is almost a tribute to one of the greatest Italian blues singers. The frenetic rhythm of “Gelosia” written by Costello himself, as well as “Amami” and “Blues”, almost autobiographical songs, complete an album that is more rhythmic than the previous ones. There is almost a desire to set creativity in motion while looking to the future.

Someone could guess that the title of the album “In alto mare” reflects the period of insecurity, of instability that we are experiencing, no, Giovanni interprets it in a subtle way, managing to create a positive message, through artistic creation, in the interest of the Music. “In alto mare” (On the high seas) is a message, an Album that varies from blues moments, funky pop to pure romanticism, it is the new Giovanni Costello, who looks forward without stopping, even making use of songs that have made Italian music great in the last years.
